Foreign buyers: Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

Ownership rules for non-Iraqis are not the same everywhere. Federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have different practical paths for foreigners, long-term residents, and companies. Before you reserve an apartment in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, or Baghdad, ask in writing: can your nationality hold freehold title there, or only a lease / company structure? Which ministry or registry must approve the transfer? Use a local lawyer who works those files weekly. Marketing brochures are not a substitute for the registry’s answer.
