Selling inherited property: shares and consent

By Sara Al-Maliki

Inherited houses often have several heirs on the deed. One heir cannot sell the whole property without the others — or a court path that settles shares. Ask for the succession certificate, a clear list of heirs, and whether any minor’s share needs guardian approval. Partial sales of one share are possible in some cases, but financing and buyer appetite drop sharply. Budget time for family coordination. The cheapest “urgent sale” listing is frequently the one stuck on missing signatures.
